Soda Bread

Ingredients

  1. Sift the flour, bicarbonate, cream of tartar, and salt together.
  2. Cut up the lard/butter and rub into the flour with your fingers until it resembles fine breadcrumbs.
  3. Mix in the sugar.
  4. Make a well in the centre of the flour and add the milk.
  5. Mix to a soft but manageable dough, add more milk if necessary.
  6. Turn the dough on to a floured surface.
  7. Knead it lightly into a 15-20cm round and flatten slightly
  8. Mark the round into four with the back of a knife.
  9. Bake at 200°C for around 30 minutes.
  10. Cool on a wire rack.

Serves: 1 loaf
